Help, Advice, Owners' Discussion and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's stylish, distinctive P2 platform cars sold as model years 2001-2007 (North American market year designations).
My car had been running really rough at idle, I was unable to find the answer and unable to afford to have it checked out. One day I unplugged the air mass sensor and the car ran really smooth. I went to the volvo mechanic and had an analysis done and they verified that indeed the air mass sensor was the culprit. So I broke down and purchased the sensor and replaced it myself. The car ran great for 6 days and then returned to the bucking and surging it was put there to replace. What could have caused this to happen?
The check engine light has not come on, I returned to my earlier trick of unplugging the sensor and yes the car is idling nicely
PLEASE HELP I AM BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE HERE
To answer to your questions; yes I cleared the codes, yes I used a bosch MAF and yes the car is a turbo.
After I replaced the MAF, it ran great , then on the 7th day it began to surge again, it just went from good to bad...when you start the car it takes a couple of seconds till it starts, then you can see the lights on the dash following the surging until it stalls...you can keep it going if you pump the accelerator, but once you let off the gas it starts again, also the exhaust smell is very strong while this is happening. Once you're on the road it runs OK until you begin to slow down or take your foot off the gas and the rpms start down.
I think maybe I should clean the throttle body, but I'm not sure where it is at, although I believe it at the other end of the hose from the MAF, but I can't see it ...therefore I don't know how to get at it
Thanks for the guidance
