Is the year 2000, 70's series really that different?

Post by AP »

I'm trying to find a repair manual for my 2000 s70 GLT, but all publications (Haynes, Clifton, etc) only covers the 70's series up to 1999. What is so different with the 2000 version? Can I still use those manuals for my car?

One significant difference between the 850 plus the 98 S/V70 versus the post 98 models is the electronic throttle and electronic ignition.

You can use the 850 information for probably 85-90% of stuff.

I have a copy of VADIS from ebay (around $60 a couple of years ago) that is extremely valuable and it covers multiple models and model years including 850 through P2 cars. It's not always easy to find what you're looking for (nor very intuitive) until you get used to it, but it's the Volvo factory service manual on disk.

What about a Haynes book for the 1999 volvo? What actually changed on the 70's series from -99 to 2000?

My impression is that there were no significant changes from 99 to 00, but I may not be the best one to answer that.

I didn't realize that Haynes made one for anything beyond the 850. It seems like if they went to that trouble they would have included the 2000 MY.

Yes, the 2000 v70xc is very different. Even though the style was the same from 98-00, the 2000 for some crazy reason has year-specific parts, especially driveline parts. More excellent Volvo engineering :x I picked up a VADIS manual on ebay for $25 and it is reasonable, but you won't find a Haynes or Chilton manual for this car.
