Re: Engine shudder during acceleration

took car to dealership. Let mech drive and experience shudder. They installed new software for transmission. Car still shudders at 40 mph while lightly pressing on gas pedal. They also said I have a cracked "Sub-frame bushing". I will replace. If shudders continues, back to dealership.

Shudder continues. Has anyone found out what might be the solution?

I Had this problem with my 99 v70. On gentle accelerations, just as the car was accelerating out of overdrive (I guess around 50 mph) the trans would shutter maybe a little less than half the time in ordinary driving, or 100% of the time if I coached it. At the time I read somewhere on this site that there was a Volvo service bulletin about worn out trans fluid. So I drained the pan only and replaced about 4 quarts of synthetic plus one quart of Lucas transmission stuff. It's now 15,000 miles later and never a peep again. Twenty other things are wrong, but no more shuttering.

Hoping to resurrect this thread; though, I'm not sure that it died.
I recently purchased the 2007 S60 2.5T AWD with 80,000 miles that I daily drive, and it recently started doing this. I had the AutoTrans fluid flushed/replaced within the past 1000 miles, with no luck in a fix. Has anyone out there found a permanent fix for this? I'll take it to a dealer, but i dont want to pay them to play detective if the exact cause might be known on this forum. Your input is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Is it really an engine stutter, which should be detectable by seeing some quivering of the tach needle, or some other shakiness in the drive train?

An actual stuttering of the engine when accelerating could be as simple as the need to replace the spark plugs, or it could be something like the fuel pressure sensor going bad (common on these cars). When my wife's 05 s80 2.5T started missing during acceleration it was quite a while until we FINALLY got a check engine light. Turned out to be the fuel pressure sensor. My 03 V70 2.4 NA was just the opposite - pressure sensor threw a check engine light before the car even started to miss. Rigging a fuel pressure gauge and monitoring it during the stuttering will tell you if it's fuel pressure related. Some of the years/models/VIN numbers have a recall on the sensor.

If the engine really isn't missing (steady tach) I'd take a good look at the CV joints. Shaking under acceleration is often indicative of a CV going bad. Take a look under there and see if any of the boots are torn and/or leaking grease. It's hard to believe a CV joint would be failing at 80,000 miles, but anything is possible.

I can't say for sure what your particular situation is. Did you put the Lucas trans additive in?
Cadillac's own packaged version of the Lucas additive was actually a service bulletin back in the 1990's for shuttering transmissions. The stuff really works. (If it is really your trans, and nothing is worn or broken beyond use). My trans never acted up again in 6 or 8 years.
