Drivers airbag - clock spring?

Post by wolfspiritky »

Just finished replacing heater core and A/C evap in my daughters 95.
My issue is with the reel device (CLOCK SPRING?) that plugs into the airbag module.
I need to know how to rest it. I read the instructions on the yellow tag but stillam not real clear on what to do.

I DO NOT WANT TO CHANCE THE AIRBAG GOING OFF INADVERTANTLY!!!!

P. 16 of this goes into some detail on how to replace the clock spring; I'm not sure if it will help you any more than what you have already.

Thanks but, the info wasn't of use.

I need detailed directions of how to reset it at the proper position before I install the steering wheel.

I really need to get this done tonight, she needs it for a job interview in the morning.

Are you talking about the wire that connects to the airbag? If so, you don't need to reset anything. As long as the battery was disconnected when you unplugged the airbag then all you need to do is plug it back in, screw it back into the steering wheel, and then reconnect the battery. If however, the battery wasn't disconnected you will get an SRS light on the dash. To reset that you need to go to a Volvo dealership; as far as I know OTC scanners can't reset SRS lights.

How many turns of slack needs to be in it. The "pin" fell out at some point after I had removed it.

Go all the way to one side, turn it back and count the turns (Full and partial) to the other side. Set it half way when the wheels are straight.

Well I kinda guessed at it before I saw your post Lee.

I mounted it to the column, turned it to the left till it stopped (wire was coiled snug) then turned it 3 turns back to the right. Does this sound about right or should I remove the steering wheel and set it by your instructions?
