240 1989 Blower Motor?

Post by Cassman500 »

After just finishing the fix on my leaky steering rack another problem just popped up. I believe it is my blower motor. i took the glove compartment out and the CD deck to get a look behind the dash. I've been getting this awful squealing sound coming from the center of the dash behind the middle two vents. the air flow and all the settings still work fine its just an awful sound. I was wondering if maybe its just a fan belt or fan that is causing this. I'm hoping its not the motor because I'd have to take apart the whole dashboard would I? Thanks for the help again

There are no belts inside the heater. The fan is attached to the fan motor shaft. I am assuming that the noise is only there when the fan is switched on. If it is there at all times you could have a slipping belt at the front end where you have just been working.

If it is the fan you can see what sort of job you are looking at here. Also look at the chainsaw method. It saves a lot of time and back ache.

I'm going to give it a go today, I've actually already taken a look at that page its a good source. Any tips on trying to un-snap the lower part of side console panels?

As far as I can remember they slot in behind the centre console and should come out with gentle pulling.
