Re: Chinese close to buying Volvo
Volvo has been dead to me for 10 years now. Its just a brand name. They can sell it North Korea for all I care.
Ambitious but rubbish

Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.
Also -> Amazon link. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

I'm going to move this to General Chat because it's not really an 850/S70/V70 topic. It's an outstanding topic in any case.

So True...but the Indians are getting much better for all the same reasons the Chinese are. The son becomes the father and the march of progress continues.matthew1 wrote:Because you can only go up from where they werebright wrote:(Why doesn't anyone mention Tata buying Jaguar?). Seriously, Jaguar, before Ford, was a mess in regards to electronics, and during Ford was a mess with reliability.
It has been a fun chat.
Many Thanks,

This is true but they sold way more cars under Ford then the previous owner, just like Volvo did when Ford bought them. Lets face it we can ignore the quality and reliability arguments because Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover and Ford (until recently) hasn't been about quality and reliability. Its simply about making money and Ford made these companies profitable.matthew1 wrote:Because you can only go up from where they werebright wrote:(Why doesn't anyone mention Tata buying Jaguar?). So what happened to the Swedish Government getting involved or something to bring Volvo back to Sweden? Plus I thought we also heard something about BMW being interested in buying Volvo...?

I have owned two volvos and two toyotas in the last six years a 1986 celica gt-s, a 1991 toyota corolla, a 1989 740 glt and lastly my 1995 850T5 the climate I live in is probally the harshest of anyplace in the world. humide salty air, snow road salt and terrible roads are all a fact of winter driving here in nova scotia. I brought the celica from a western province (rust free and pick any nut or bolt and it would turn). Within a year I had to replace two front fenders and broke all of the bolts on the lower fenders. I had the underside painted and undercoated after. I purchased the corolla in decent Nova scotia shape with little rust and solid rocker panels and door bottems, I put 30000km on the car over two years and scrapped it because the rockers and doors where toast(worse than burnt) THe 740 was a solid nova scotia car with one baby finger sized hole over the back drivers wheel and no other rust and a squeeky clean underside. this car was showing 440000kn when I got rid of it shortly after i bought it. And last but not least my 850 is clean and shinny(save for the parking lot dings, which this car seems to attract) and if it where the right way round I would not hesitate to eat my dinner from its unprotected factory finish. also routine stuff like starters and altinators are at least 80-100 dollars cheaper(sometime more) than both toyotas ive owned. my .2s
95 850 turbo....poly upper mount, 19t turbo, 3" downpipe, 2.25 custom exhaust w/magnaflow cat. bilstein struts/shocks,Ipd hd mounts and seats. vented cross drilled rotors F/B. and lastly an Alpine H/U,and hopefully more to come!!!

Well, I really believe japanese cars are more reliable than any other car out there, but I almost hate them.
They don't have personality.
I was a valet at a very expensive restaurant before, and have driven almost everything, lamborgini, ferrari, porche, RR and some other of the kind EXCLUDED and might say Honda Civic for instance (which is considered to be the best car) feels like Super Nintendo (and I know what I am talking about, as I have played it many many hours and even days).
So, to me personally (my apologies to the feminists and alike out there) the car is similar to a woman (weren't cars in female gender?), you spend so much time with her, you HAVE to count on her, you have to take very good care of her, she's expensive, fragile and so on.
So, What do I gain if I find a very strong woman which is no fun and I have to spend about 10-20 years at least with her
?
NOTHING but white hair and insomnia while dreaming of another woman !!!
My 2¢
