New to the volvo security system

Post by cranehunter »

Hi, I have a 2000 V70XC that I purchased that had an interior fire.
Someone had attempted to steal it broke the steering column and set the thing on fire. So I replaced all of the interior from a donar car, just to find out that the engine was toast as well. My bad. Good thing I got it cheap.

Any how after replacing the engine this car will not start. I suspect it has something to do with the security system. Since it has no spark nor do the injectors fire. The only portion of the security system that I have changed is the key and antenna ring. I still have the other original equipment in the car.

My question is how does this security system work? Will I need to swap the ECM, and the Immobilizer from the doner car as well?

Thanks

In 99's and newer Volvos, the key has to be "mated to the car' and requires software, dealer only.
So you may have to tow it over there

Being the impatient one that I am I decided to continue to swap parts. I started with the immobilizer. No luck then I swapped both the ECM and TCM from the doner car. The car starts and runs. I have not road tested it yet tranny hose leak.
So those of you that are wondering electronic equipment from the doner car is the TCM, ECM, Immobilizer and the instrument clustor, the whole ignition switch assembly along with the antenna.

I would still like to know what the order of operation and operation of the alarm system if anyone knows. This would help in the trouble shooting. :)
