Be sure when you remove the mast that the entire piece of spline comes out. If even a little piece has broken off in the motor, the new one will not go in.

In which case, you will need to remove the motor and remove the broken piece.

Shaking it upside down in this case seems to dislodge the pesky broken piece.

SnookWhaler is exactly right, mine had about and 8" piece of mast broken off and stuck in the mast housing. No amount of shaking was going to dislodge a section that big(can't image ever shaking a piece out given the housing configuration).

Simple to fix: after removing assembly from car, just remove the two mount plate bolts on the bottom of the housing, then remove the center nut on the circular housing cover. Remove broken piece and reassemble.

I spent endless hours trying to get the antenna on my 850 working right, so I understand your agony here. In the end I just bought a $60 aftermarket antenna on eBay and it worked for years. Purists will scoff but it worked fine and I was able tho spend my time fixing my flame trap instead.

I have a couple of brand new aftermarket ones and I think 1 or 2 P80 sedan ones, plus possibly a C70. The masts are different for some reason, but the main issue is the lower mount to the car has a different bracket that can be swapped.

I probably have about $40 (CDN)/ $30 US into the Volvo ones due to the cost of the masts these days, and the aftermarket ones, one I recall is a straight swap in and the other needed a couple of wires spliced but a simple mod. Those can go for $20 CDN ($15 US) each. Shipping will be on top of that of course.

If anyone wants on PM and we can sort it out. It will take me more time doing the cross border paperwork than packing and shipping!

I will test them prior to shipping to ensure they are working as they should as they have been stored in a heated garage for a while.

Neil.
