I have this massage 1999 Volvo s80 transmission service required
any idea what does it mean?
do I have to rebuild tranny ?

It means your transmission needs service. Maybe it's low on oil, maybe it's fried a switch of some sort. Or maybe u do need a new one. Is it working ok?

I think work ok.
I just bought this car week ago previews owner told me that this tranny was rebuild 2 years ago but they never get rid of this worning.
he said they fix the problem was something with 3 gear

I'm actually having a problem with my 3rd gear as well, what did they say they did to correct it?

they fixed shifting problem but message left (transmission service required)
