Arrow and Engine light came after washing butterfly valve

Post by alvin »

My car is 98 S70. After my friend helping me to wash the butterfly valve, we noticed the auto transmission arrow signal flashing and the check engine light came out after swithing on the engine. Also, we noitced the engine is "limp"(lack of power). Finally, we find that we forgot to connect one pipe.

Aftering fixing it, these 2 lights were still on, but there is no "limp" found on the car. It seemed the car remain powerful and even more powerful than before (should be due to the cleaning effect). We couldn't find any problems on driving. However, we cannot reset the light even by disconnecting the car battery.

Can any expert give your opinions and experience to me?
Any response is highly appreciated. Thanks very much!

The lights will stay on until they are cleared with a code reader. Any auto parts store will reset them for free.

If no code reader disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes. Remember you will need to reset the clock and radio

Thanks very much!

Will there be anything related to O2 sensor?
How comes I know if O2 sensor is defective?
Thanks again!

You would need a code reader . If you have an Autozone nearby they will read the codes for free. Some states do not permit them to clear the codes but some will.

I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes but no use. :(
I just wonder if the malfunction of:
1) O2 sensor
2) PnP switch
will have adverse effect on driving?
BTW, I will look for the error code few days later. Thanks!

Check Engine lights can and do turn themselves off after an error-free drive cycle, which is either measured in distance, time, or both.

After replacing my rear O2 sensor, my CE light went out about two days later.

Don't know about transmission light, sorry.

Thanks for your information.
A good news is that the transmission light turned off when I started the engine few hours ago.
Now only check engine light remains.

Is your car equipt with an air-pump? I had a checkengine light come on from a bad relay and disconnecting the battery did not clear it. The relay is attached to the pump located under the battery tray.
