Volvo Repair Database Loud creaking when turn sharp

Post by iflewjetz »

I have a C70 2002.
The car creaks loudly when you turn tight into a parking lot or making a u turn. Sounds like a haunted house door. I thought maybe the tire was rubbing against the wheelwell, but I dont see any wear on the tires. This has been happening for a while. thank you for any information.

Edit: Btw, Welcome to MVS:
Creaks? as in????? Is it like a banging creak or or ticking kinda noise.

id say take a look under your hood, and then under the car to see if anything is noticably wrong.. did you hit any pot holes lately?

Stuts? or cv join/axle would make banging noises. well cv joint would make ticking noises on sharp turns. at least loud enough for you to hear inside car

OOOOOOOOOO!!!.
Im thinking those giant springs. lol. So struts, shocks, that area. This is what you do, *as shown by my mechanic* lol.
Open your hood. Now get on the side of the car *your going to want to try on both sides*

Remember how you ust to jump on your bed? dont do it that hard haha.
Place both hands firmly on the side piece and push down a few times to listen for the noise.

If that happens I believe it has something to do with your struts if im not mistaken? I could be. but let me know if that works for you.

If it makes the noise when you push down a few times *like bounce the car* on both sides. than it could be your struts. I have bad ones and they make that noise when i push down like that.
Btw, depending on how bad they are.. look to see if they raise up when you push down.

I had the creaking on my 850 as well. I think the bounce test is to test the spring seats not the struts but I too could be mistaken. My creaking was caused by low Power Steering Pressure/Fluid. I did a PS flush and all is good now.

Polska...was this something you did yourself? I also have a high pitched humming noise that lasts maybe 5 seconds. Sometimes it comes on when started, when turned off and now just does it randomly. Somebody mentioned power steering leak at the transmission shop, but wasnt sure. Thanks

Yes this was something I did myself. There are two ways to do it, the lazy way and the good way. I did it the lazy way but I am going to do it the god way this Christmas while I am changing the rotors and pads all around. The lazy way is to use either a turkey baster or the top of a soap dispenser to remove the majority of the fluid from power steering reservoir. Once you have done that, refill w/ your choice of PS fluid, run the car for a little, and do the same thing again. Do this a few times until you are satisfied. The best way...damn I can't find the link...I don't remember how it's done but it's relatively simple, I'll keep looking and post the link back here.

My wife said it is more of a popping noise instead of creaking

Popping sounds more like a suspension problem. Try the bounce test like RobTheModd suggested. While you do that, check the CV joints to make sure they are good too.
