s90 1998 flashing arrow

When I turn on the car the flashing arrow appeares for a split second along with the other idiot lights, is that normal. OK thanks.
The linkage came off and had it hauled back to my house with AAA about 20 mi. I probably could have fixed at the parking lot of the golf course (torrey pines) but wasnt sure what it was but I thought it was a simple fix, and it was, once I had my back yard machanic fix it for me for 10 bucks. Just thought id share that little tidbit.

Thank you for the information. A reasonably priced repair.

This is from the owner's manual:

When the ignition key is turned on, and before the engine starts, ALL of the warning lights should be on to test the function of the bulbs. Should a light not go off after the engine has started, the system indicated should be inspected. However, the parking brake reminder light will not go off until the parking brake is fully released.

Just thought I would weigh in here. 2 years ago (after an eveing haul over the Cuyamaca's (105 degrees outside) we had a flashing yellow arrow along with the W/E/S selector lights. Limped it over to Aamco. They found that the position selector inside the transmission came loose and was then distributed in pieces throughout the rest of the transmission. This resulted in an expensive transmission rebuild. Not sure if this is something that could have been avoided... since that repair the transmission has performed like a champ! We have since taken that same trip in the heat with no problems!
