interchangeable parts

Post by new2volvo »

Hi everyone. I am a new volvo owner-bought a 93 850 glt. It does run and drive but i want to make it better on a budget. Does anyone know if the parts including the engine and tranny interchangeable for all model years . will the engine from an automatic drop into a manual setup, etc. Thank you all and have a great day!!!

What you have here is a'93 850 from a first generation and parts aren't quite the same like for later versions of 850.

Timing belt,headlamps,ecu's...aren't the same and,as far as i know, they are not in iterchangable with later models.

About your question for engine & transmission...As far as i know, they should be the same, but ecu's are not.

'93 models(first models of 850) have jetronic ecu's & later models have Motronic.

Also,in ecu box for '93 models there are 3 ecu's(for ignition, engine & transmission) and later models have only 2(for engine & transmission).

So engines from 2 93 models-one with an automatic and one with a manual transmission should swap out with no problem?

They should be no problem at all so long as you swap the motor out between the manifolds, I actually think the later motors through '95 would work as well but the '93 model cars are just different enough that I wouldn't want to bet my life on it.

Yes it will fit,but as i said before, ecu's are different.

Meaning...no ecu's=no start.

960 throttle bodys swap over for better response. 850 turbo cat back exhaust is slightly larger, weld on after the cat. 94 and up na 5 cyl exhaust have a better flow design then the 93, weld on in front of the cat. tail lights can be swapped over for an updated look.S70 and V70 have a little more agressive bulge in the side skirt and are a direct bolt on with S70 V70 mud flaps. all 93s seem to be wired for the side marker that goes in place of the volvo emblems on the front fenders found on most Volvos 98 and newer.
