You're right about that Misha but why would you expect it to be cheaper for Audi or any other decent European car maker? I know you weren't the one who said they wanted to ditch the Volvo and get an Audi, but that's what I was talking about. True Volvo is expensive, but these cars are easy to work on and if maintained are reliable. The same can't be said for VW who owns Audi and Lambo. I haven't checked any ratings but I know that Audi's don't have the reputation of indestructability, ease of maintenance, safety, etc that Volvo has. Having owned an Audi 5000 I can attest to that. I am a fairly decent shade tree mechanic but when my wife had the 5000 it pretty much required a monthly trip to "Hans and Franz" which was the nickname we gave to the local indy shop that dealt with Porsches and Audis.I haven't checked any ratings but I know that Audi's don't have the reputation of indestructability, ease of maintenance, safety, etc that Volvo has.
I always thought a cool accessory would be a credit card reader built into the top of the dash where, once a month, you could swipe a credit card. It would charge me $600.00, the car would run again, and it would save me the trip to the shop.
The Audi did drive very well and it rode like a Cadillac. Mine was a 5 speed manual so the performance was decent but nothing like the turbo 850.

I had a beautiful 850 I bought used from the original owner; always had synthetic oil in the crankcase and automatic transmission, sun roof, spoiler, child seat in the back and it was in the dark green. It had a new timing belt in it too when I got it. Owned it about three months and got rear ended, drove the back corner in about 5-6 inches. Insurance totaled it and I was devastated. Bought my S-70, good but I loved the styling of the 850 more.

Bleh We have the R8 thanks to my uncle as a late xmas preseant last year. *car dealer, go figure*
And luckaly the warrenty is still in effect. Its been in for tune ups almost every month, and lets just say... I shall never touch a thing on that car because it looks scary...
The 850 on the other hand. Is ALOT more easier to understand and work on in comparrison. But ive never owned any other audi, so it could just be for this modle.

Also,in Europe...maintenance of vw's or audi's,even for Mercedes is almost double cheaper than for Volvo's or Saab.If you add the fuel consumption of these cars in comparison with other makes + the price of gas in Europe,you have the answer.
Sadly....but it's true.
In my country or even in most part of Europe,people who buy Volvo's & Saab,buy them because they love them and know how reliable they are with a minimum and regular maintenance.
I know what Volvo is,because they are the members of my family from model 144.The only Volvo model after 144 which was skipped in my family was 700....but i'm working on that
