S90 1998 erase module code

I just bought a 1998 S90 From a dealer.He said that the battery went low and it sent a module code.He can not get the car inspected because of this code.The dealer says I have to drive it till the module is reset.then he can inspect the car.Does anyone know how to reset the module???

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Replacing the battery resets the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to factory settings. The ECU has to relearn, or in your case as a new owner learn, the optimum settings for the way you drive. The only way it can do this is for you to drive it.

In the US the ECU is read every year when the car goes for a smog check. If the battery was disconnected recently it won't pass, not because it's producing smog, but because it doesn't have enough data stored to give a valid reading.

Hey,

I had this problem after my S90 failed smog. The technician told me to continue driving the car for another week, then the ECU would give an OK reading.

FYI, There are a ton of sensors on this car for passing smog. The Chilton manual does not have them all... let alone their location. In my case I had 2 air intake temperature sensors that were not in the intake system at all. Just a word to the wise get help locating the sensors you are looking for. any Volvo codes you might get are the real deal... I had some "great" advise from some mechanics that shall remain nameless who said it was my MAF.
