Greetings all!
I bought my wife a base model 05' XC 70 for Christmas. I like the car more than she does...she loves her car. I own a 02' diesel Excursion. It's been a great truck. I bought a computer programmer from Hypertech which plugs into the truck's computer. The programmer asks you questions and based upon your answers changes the power and the shift firmness. You can also take the program back out when ever you want.
My question is this: I want to sell my truck and buy an XC 70. I would like to know if there are any performance programmers available for the XC 70? Do they work? Which programmers are the best and advertise accurate power predictions? Do some of these companies also include changing the shift firmness as well? Will these horsepower increases hurt the motors/transmissions durability? I drive about 45,000 miles a year. I am grateful for any information and guidance you might be able to give me. Franklin

There are. They are called chips, and you either send in your ECU and have it programmed or send in your ECU and get a new, programmed one back. They are expensive but popular. It's the best (safe) bang/buck item for Volvos.Anonymous wrote:I would like to know if there are any performance programmers available for the XC 70?
I don't know if there are any companies making goods or services that change the shift points in Volvos. Of course, any time you get something in hp you're going to give up something (economy, life etc., in theory). The good news is the Volvo inline 5 was designed by Porsche, and they did a fine job. It's a very durable engine that seems to do ok with upgrades up to about 300hp. Others like White850Turbo know more about this than I do, but either way, below is a link to a comprehensive chip manufacturer round-up that can give you more info.Anonymous wrote:Do some of these companies also include changing the shift firmness as well?
