1995 VOLVO 960

Post by neworleans »

Hello everyone,

I am interested in buying this car but the seller said that it was sitting up for 1 year, starting and cutting off, needs to be towed if i buy it.

I wanted to ask your opinion what could be the problem before I even buy it.

His asking price is $500 but I think i may get it cheaper than that...

I don't know the mileage yet but just asked him in the email...

Thank you.

I think I would do it in a heartbeat for that money but I am going to move you to the appropriate forum for some more expert commentary on that particular car.

I agree with both opinions. Unfortunately it wouldn't swim across the pond or I would be after it.

One drawback with the 960 up to '95 and even '96 was that some had a porous block due to bad manufacture. With a higher mileage example the chances are it has either happened and been sorted or it isn't going to happen.

You can read more about it here.

I had a '91 model with no problems and my friendly Volvo tech has never seen one, but they are out there so best to check carefully in the areas listed in the Brickboard write-up.

As a sad reminder...Hurricane Katrina damaged a great deal of New Orleans, both in lives and property. This 960 could be a remnant of that event.

I imagine that you have already made the choice to purchase, but keep it in the back of your mind for other cars/trucks particularly from that area. The insurance companies did not write off all of the cars. Most older cars do not have the insurance that would allow for compensation in this event.
Many Thanks,
Bright
