Larry,
Sorry I was out of town and couldn't get the cam holding tool to you. Looks like you managed without it though...

With my 1998 V70XC approaching 150,000 miles, I was excited to receive my timing belt kit, water pump, and little blue tool to hold everything in place today from IPD. (when I did the 75,000 mile change at the Volvo dealership in 2005 the bill was $583 plus tax)
I was disappointed to see that the timing belt kit did not include that little white spacer that goes on the tensioner shaft. I was looking forward to starting on the project tomorrow morning, but don't want to if using the old spacer is considered to be a bad thing to do. Any advice from you experts?

I have re-used the spacer on a couple of belt changes with no problem.

Thanks for the advice Lee, I thought it would be alright, but I having never done this project just wanted to make sure. I will dig into the project tomorrow afternoon (should be about perfect weather for working on the car, about 50 degrees).

I don't know if the threads cross reference each other but here is a writeup that I did that has some decent pictures and it may be helpful for you.

Got it done this weekend. Can't say it was an easy job, ran into a few snags here and there, but it's definitely doable. Would have been extremely hard without both excellent instructions... Lee's on link above, and the instructions on this post.

Very good information for those of us wanting to do this. I'm about to tackle this project since my water pump has started leaking through the welch plug. One question I have, though. Do any of you use some sort of tool to hold the pulleys in place to keep the timing marks aligned while removing/replacing belt? Hoping to tackle this job soon after the holidays. Thanks in advance for the advice
