V70/XC 1999 Strange vibration

I'm having a strange issue which occurs between 2000 and 2500 RPMs under 50 MPH. It's a vibration from the engine compartment that almost feels like a stall but there is no loss of power. In addition I have an rattle that sounds as if there's something loose which gets louder if I turn. I'm about to put the car up and look underneath, but if anyone has any ideas on narrowing down what it might be I'd appreciate it.

How are the motor mounts and tranny mounts. When was the last tune up done? Does this only happen when it is cold?

Just a few questions that will help us pinpoint the issue.

The tune up wasn't that long ago, although one of the engine mounts was replaced at that time. It started in warmer weather although it is cold now.
