The only time I've ever seen one of those was my old Saab when it needed an oxygen sensor...I previously had no idea what that light even was

That seems less ominous than the actual 'check engine' light for some reason. I hate seeing that thing come on.

I understand that Volvos use a particular kind of coolant. Do you know where I can purchase it? Are there any comparable substitutes?

The owners manual states that the system wants a Phosphate Free coolant. I think that is actually more of an issue in Europe where they have some really mineral intensive tap water but I follow the manual just to be safe. I use Zerex G05 as it is the only coolant I have found that states that it is Phosphate Free on the label. It is hard to find but you should be able to get it at NAPA for around $12.00/gallon - uncut.

I'm now using MB (Mercedes-benz) coolant for all my Volvo's now

. Its cheaper than Volvo's (only $13/gallon from my dealer and $11 from my on-line dealer)

and supposely longer lifespan (3yr/30k for 2001 and earlier MB models and 15yr/150k for 2002 and later MB models, which have a silica gel packet in the coolant reservoir that constantly replenishes the silicate concentration).

Thank you all for the great information; the reset instructions for the "service" light worked, and I'm going to get the coolant tomorrow
