Australian 2001 XC70 ETM issues

Post by Budge66 »

Hi There,I'm going through the classic and well discussed ETM issues with a 2001 XC70. Without delving into the symptoms/how to fix problem itself, I've had discussion with the Volvo service people here in Brisbane and they say in Australia we have no recall or extended warranty for ETMs like the USA. This is annoying as I will no doubt be paying a fortune for what is a Volvo global quality issue? Painfully, the mechanic told me that XC70s sold in Australia do not have the same fuel system components as sold in other countries, and therefore the recall has not happened here......good one, I'm sure Volvo designed a unique part number ETM just for the small Australian market!
I'm hoping there may be other Australians out there with advice on how they went about the resolution, or maybe if there is a cheaper alternative workshop to the Volvo service centre.
I'm thinking that I will have to pay the 2 grand and get a new ETM fitted at Volvo, and try to avoid having to pay extra dollars for 'fault finding' labor.

If Volvo is not going to take responsibility for their poor design you can try an alternative:

Just a thought. Do a search on this site for remarks about the XeMODeX rebuild.

Here's a link to their main page.

Worst case ship in an ETM from FCP or DW Volvo and have the local stealership fit and do the software mating. Or you could fit it yourself in the parking lot :-)
My ETM crapped out a few months before the Xemodex product came on the market and I could not wait so I got in an ETM from FCP and had the local dealer in Canberra fit it. Total cost a touch over $1000 AUD
Hope that helps,

William
