2002 V70 front strut assembly diagram..?

Post by Gilles »

By any chance someone has the assembly diagram for the front strut on a 02 V70?

I already replaced twice the "upper spring seat' (rubber part) the first time I used parts from IPD and two months ago I bought "Moog life time warranty" and today I noticed that one of the rubber spring seats has broken again... :(

I am pretty sure that I assembled the components in the right sequence but I wanted to be sure (that's why I need the diagram), I will also disassemble, clean and re-lubricate the bearing because it may be putting extra stress on the failed part while turning.

Somehow related, at the same time I will be replacing the bushings on the lower control arm that are shoot, I don't have a press hopefully I won't have to take the arms to a shop for removing/installing the bushings.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Regards,
Gilles

Steely,

Thank you for the diagram..!

The spring top that failed twice is the part No 6., I may have installed the X nut backwards (No.3) the last time.. but I am removing the struts so I will found out shortly.

If the X nut is not backwards then perhaps the bearing (No.5) is damaged (hopefully it's only dirty..) and is not allowing the spring to rotate, and putting extra stress on the spring top.

I believe that the ball bearings can removed from No.5 so I will clean them and inspect the bearing races for scoring, if there is any damage there I will need to buy new bearings ($$..) :(

Thanks again for the diagram.

Steely,

I recently purchased a 2001 V70 T5. I need to replace the front strut assemblies and it looks like I'll be completing a lot of the other maintenance activities that you've discussed in your recent posts. You've provided a lot of good info. Thanks. Can you recommend a good service manual? I haven't been able to find anything for this model.

As an example:

Haynes sells a DIY manual, the VADIS is good for diagrams and exploded views.
