Is there any type of replaceable transmission filter on a 2003 XC90? I'm getting ready to try my first transmission fluid change/flush. The dealer says "no" and tell me the fluid was never meant to be changed and it's a GM transmission. The auto parts stores such as NAPA, AutoZone, Advance, etc., don't show any options or part number when I ask.
What's the real scoop? Changing the filter and fluid should be a no-brainer. Thanks!

Think you are a little mis-informed. Your transmission is NOT the GM trans, you have the AW50/51AWD which is far better. The GM trans is on the 6 cylinder turbo. There is no filter and Volvo says the fluid never needs to be changed but that is entirely up to you. We do flushes whenever the trans starts to act up or fluid is burned.
The type of fluid you use is also up to you. Volvo brand fluid is very expensive. I'm not real sure about the Amsoil ATF, if it meets JWS3309 specs then try at your own risk!
