need some help here

Post by volvo_96 »

I just bought a 96 850 automatic for the wife. She was complaining that she always has to press the shift lock button to put the car into gear. Can't figure out why it does it. Anyone willing to help?

Your shift lock microswitch needs to be replaced. If I remember correctly, that was actually recalled by Volvo, so replacement shouldn't cost you anything. If I'm thinking of the wrong thing, then the part can be easily replaced by yourself. Here is a guide on how to do it. The part itself is in the neighborhood of $20 IIRC. If you don't want to pay outrageous dealer prices, check out FCP Groton.
