Transmission issues: T6 vs. 2.9
Hi - new here. I noticed quite a few postings about transmission problems with the S80. Are there more problems associated with the T6 transmission (since it's more complex) compared to the 2.9? I just bought a 2.9 with 73K miles. The transmission shifts very smoothly, but I'm just wondering if there's anything I should be on the look out for. Any insight is welcome. Thanks.
The T6 transmissions usually go more often. Volvo did a bad job of matching the engines and transmissions in the S80. The T6 engine produces a lot of torque, and the transmission is too weak for all of that, so they usually burn out faster.
I suggest flushing the transmission and changing the filter soon. Clean fluid will help it last a lot longer. (Volvo does not suggest a fluid change.. so that's another reason why the transmissions go.) But, you should do it anyways.
If you're a DIY person, refer to this guide on the fluid and filter change. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 11&t=20278
