2005 xc70 wanders on road.

Post by tmsc14 »

its a 2005 xc70 with 50,000 miles. had an alignment done and a balance. It feels like the car has a mind of its own and wanders, always needs a little adjustment to get it straight. When trucks or buses pass by feels like its getting pushed to the side. Went to dealer said everything was ok. Is this normal for this box of a car to do this? it also has terrible torque steer. Any ideas what i should be looking for?

Of course, its not normal. It should track pretty straight and true, but you may find, as many have, that you will get a slight drift toward the berm side probably due to the castor spec used by Volvo. Anyway, if the car is all over the place, either the alignment is off (you really trust a dealer to tell you the truth after they have done the work?!), you have a brake dragging badly, tire pressures are way, way off in one tire, or you are running way high air pressure (as in waaaay high). In any case, some of these things you can check yourself and you should do so straight away. The others should be checked out ASAP before you end up in serious trouble.

Cheers,

Bill

Newly rotated tires can cause wandering until they get to "know" their new positions.
