When I start my 2006 S60 in the morning on very cold days it takes at least 30 mins before I can shift the gear box from parked to reverse. Also my key is hard to get out of the ignition when I turn the car off. HELPP!!!

Sounds like your brake interlock solenoid isn't functioning. The solenoid allows the shift lever to move when your foot depresses the brake pedal. Keeps old ladies from crashing through coffee shop  I haven't replaced one yet, but hear it's common failure. I would guess the solenoid is in the console, on the select lever.

In the older cars like mine, the electrical portion of the ignition switch is a common point of failure, and acts up under extreme temperatures. Once you start the car, try jiggling your key a little bit and see if it unlocks. There is also a shift-lock solenoid that fails under the console, as mentioned above.

I am by far not an expert on working on Volvos, but a couple years ago my key would not turn in the ignition; I was told by some 'wise' mechanic to spray some WD40 on the key and into the ignition; I gave it a shot since the dealership quoted me some horrendous price for a new unit...long story short, that was over 2 years ago and haven't had any problems ever since...
