My late dad left me with a volvo xc90 , gasket has been already replaced by himself but did not have chance to complete the whole repairingand he passed away. I am sure he knew what he was doing but has passed away with his secret. Both gears are removed from their respective cams ; I want to reassemble the engine but have no marks to do so. I know a little about mechanics and want to align the cams myself and I discover this interesting forum.
My question is: when the crankshaft mark is aligned vertically how should be oriented both oposite ends of the two camshaft seals. IF i happen to orientate them ,I should be able to fire the engine, am I right.!!!!! I already have the alignment tools ;
Can someone provide with pictures of the two camshaft seals side when the crankshaft mark is vertically in the middle.

I will appreciate any help
Thanks.

Vegas ,
Thanks for your contributions.
My main problem is that both sprockets are removed from their respective cams and I do not know their original position???

Pages 5 and 6 above show how to put the pulleys back on. You lock the cams in place from the backside with the cam locking tool, then align the pulleys with the marks.

Hi Vegas, sorry for my delayed responses , you are really nice guy.
That sounds really good start but seems like the tool I have is not for my volvo xc 90 but for BMW which means I shall order a new alignment tool.
Which handy one would you recommend me at very good price.
Thanks;

The directions show how to make your own from some bar stock and bolts. It's very expensive to purchase the real Volvo tool.
