Driver seat controls only work right after I enter the car

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Driver seat controls only work right after I enter the car

Post by fbrfab »

Im having this problem: The buttons to change the seat positions, the memory buttons etc only seem to work right after I enter the car. What I mean is, i unlock the car, get in it and I can make changes to the seat positions, but once the key is in the ignition and the car is turned on, those buttons no longer work. I wonder if anybody has had this problem and if there is a fix for it.

Mine only works when it feels like it. Doesn't matter if I have the key in, out, on, off... it will adjust, then won't work until it's good an ready, which has sometimes been the next day.

I checked all the wiring harnesses, connections, fuses... they were all fine. it just seems to be tempermental. :|

So I went and checked history on how many switches we sell, and in the last two years that is a big 0 for early S80's. Next I check the part number for the PSM (power seat module) reload to see if it has ever been billed out. I found it billed twice, and checked the notes. Technician discovered no communication to the cem from the psm, he removed the psm, then re-installed and downloaded the re-load software for that module. This fixed the customers complaint of a non-op driver's seat switch. Not really a common issue, but give that a try. You will have to find a shop with VIDA for the re-load.
