What's your gas mileage?

Hi,
I have an 850R standard spec. 250hp manual gearbox 167k miles. UK mileage I get round town about 23 to 24 to the gallon. On a good run I can just get this into the very low 30's but only if I use 98 ron (Shell Optimax). Having said that car runs better on this anyway.

Should give you a good general idea as we have a pretty temperate climate here on the south coast.

that's Horrible! I have a 98XC LPT the only thing i hate is City driving! 15 16 at best! but on the hwy doing 70 this car feels like its flying! i average about 32 from hand calculations and on board computer! so something is up with your car! i highly Recommend a stage 0 tune!

I know this is an old thread, but 2 things.
How did that oil analysis turn out? Do tell. . .
Also, I just bought a Kiwi trip computer as I wanted to buy a code reader/reset tool and this unit measures your realtime fuel consumption which shoots all the way from 4 mpg to 51? which seems insane.
In the average setting it's showing that I get 15 to 17 mpg, which is damned low, I think.
just replaced the maf and air filter and I think I should do the spark plugs next. I'm going to check if upping my tire pressure helps.

Here is that oil analysis it was posted in another thread. The 2% fuel content was no issue and was due to cold weather. The interval that is on the sheet is also wrong, I did it at 10,000KM.

In extremely cold temps, it will use a lot of gas.

"Normal" for me this summer is about 18 mpg city; 26-27 mpg highway (70-75 mph). If I cut the AC off, those numbers go up about 2-3 mpg.

The European's change their oil about every 10k kilometers (6k miles). I honestly believe that the American oil companies have sold us that we need to change our oil every 3k miles. My S70 now has 220k miles and I am still changing the oil at 7.5k miles. I bought a '98 S70 for my son last year.

99V70 Non-Turbo, Automatic. 186k miles. Last major trip 620miles. 22 Gallons (US) of Gas. 28.2MPG. 95% highway @70 MPH. 50% with an 500 lb load in the rear. All around driving car averages 24mpg. Dino oil, Mann Filters, 4000m interval.

My other car is a 940. 25mpg average. 409826 miles 4000 to 5000 mile oil change interval. This is my work "truck".

So much baloney about oil.

1. Oil companies recommend the oil be changed every 3,000 miles: Show me an oil company that recommends its oil be changed every 3,000 miles. Maybe in the 1950s they did, but engine oil has improved much since then and changing oil every 3k miles these days, even with the cheapest oil you can buy, is wasteful and serves no purpose. The current year is 2011 not 1951. Changing oil every 3,000 miles today is like changing your tires every 15,000 miles because that's how long tires used to last.

2. There was a deal between oil companies and auto manufacturers in the 70's to put longer oil change intervals in the manuals because oil prices were rising and cars were getting smaller, and people bought into it: First, does anyone really believe that every single car manufacturer and oil company colluded to do this at the same time, in secret, and it stayed a secret for 40 years? Get real. Second, what possible advantage would this have been for the oil companies?

3. Volvo (and presumably other car manufacturers) increased oil change intervals so their cars would wear out faster and they could sell more cars: Other than the fact that this is contradictory to the other oil conspiracy theories posted here, this is clearly false because cars run longer than ever today with the longer change intervals. Also, what percentage of people buy new cars these days because the engines wore out on their old one? Almost none. In the 1950s yes, today no.

Here are some facts:
1) Engine oils today are vastly superior to the old oils that had to be changed every 3,000 miles. They last much longer. This has been proven with millions of oil analyses by fleet operators and individual users.
2) Changing engine oil every 3,000 miles is nonsensical. Modern oils can easily go much longer, and synthetics can easily go 10,000 miles between changes under normal use.
3) There is no great conspiracy between oil companies and car manufacturers to destroy your car's engine before its time.
4)There is little or no correlation between the color of oil and its lubricating properties. Again, millions of oil analyses has shown this to be the case. The oil in my diesel is solid black after 500 miles and it is still good for thousands of miles more. The engine oil in my Volvo is black when I change it and it STILL tests as perfectly fine when analyzed. Oil changes color largely due to heat.

MVS is usually full of valuable and factual information, but this thread is embarrassing.

Even the oil industry has long abandoned the 3,000 mile myth. The only places you see pushing it? Auto stores and quick lube shops. I got an ad for O'Reilly Auto Parts the other day, and they had a great sale on oil, which was nice. Of course, right under a small banner that read "Change your oil at 3,000 miles!".

I live in DC and drove to Alabama this holiday weekend. my GF suggested I use High Octane and get better milage....so I did. But i wanted a good comparison...so I drove off with 1/2 of a tank of Reg. I refilled with Reg again and wrote down the milage. Short story:

On the way down:
1st fill up 73125-73559=484 I got as close to empty as I could. Filled up with 1.5 gallons. REG
2nd Fill up: 73559-74002=493 REG this is part of the way down....didn't drive while there.
Way up:
1st fill up 74002-74545 (74510 Exactly 2 gall left so I added the 35 miles to empty to the total...could be more could be less)= 543 Premium Unleaded 18 gal/543=30.1 mpg

I have currently a lil less than 3/4 to a 1/2 of a tank...got caught in traffic. Total cost round trip was $218.00...

And we hit speeds of 85-90 at times...she has a lead foot!!
