What speed does this happen at?

I know what you're talking about, when I go around twisty downhill roads in L mode, my car will abruptly downshift, but your car shouldn't be doing this in Drive.

Do you know if the tranny software update has been done on your car?

Slow speed. In drive. After letting off throttle and making the corner when it shifts from sec. to 1st it shifts hard. I don't know about software. I just bought the car recently.

Hello, My car exhibited the exact same symptoms and the trannie download cured it. Mine was $60. I'll get you the p/n if you want. I assume it's the same. Also, how many miles on your 2001? Kira

chances are you need the software upgrade like others have mentioned..i got mine done over a week ago and noticed a difference. Funny when you think about it...they're the same company (tranny) that also makes for lexus/toyota..they last forever on those cars and not long on ours...how sad for volvo!

Hello, I thought the same thing about the 2002 Saab's transmission. None dare call it planned (as in obsolescence). Three cheers for Ford (as in sarcasm). Kira

The Part number would be great. I am going to take it in to the dealership next couple of days.

Hello 1foren, On May 18,2009 a dealership installed p/n 30677036 into the TCM of my 2002 V70 non-turbo. I was charged $60+ state sales tax. Two trannie "sump dumps", with 3309 fluid, later that same week smoothed things almost completely. There remains a "double bump" upon putting the car into drive. I was told that means a valve body replacement will someday be necessary. We just finished a 1700 mile trip with no issues at all. When going from P to D I simply don't floor it. Post back and tell us what you do and learn. Kira

Thanks for all the guys are crook replies. I took my vehicle to Sanderson Volvo in Phx. Just a warning. Those guys are crooks!!!!! They told me the car was JUNK. Transmission needed replacing today. Rear main seal leaks (car never has had a drop of oil under it) etc, etc. I took it to Midas @ 83rd and Union Hills. Tony the Manager reviewed the dealer diagnosis. They went through the vehicle and after I had all the fluids flushed (just bought the car) he found that there was a motor mount that was bad. Far cry from the 10k the dealership wanted to charge.

Thanks Again for all the Replies. It turns out it was the Transmission Mount not the motor mount. So, A flush and new transmission mount and we are in Business. Shifts like a dream. thanks again to the Midas at 83rd avenue and Union hills. Ask for Tony. He is the Manager.
