V70 2004 mirror memory problem

Post by harryd »

Hi all.
I had my driver's door mirror completely replaced (housing etc) at a main dealer today at great expense. Now everytime I get in the car after locking it, the mirror moves up, each time more and more till it clicks repeatedly.
Also, the memory function wont "remember" the mirror's position, despite me resetting it as per the manual by use of the seat mounted switches.
All other memory functions work fine. Anyone got any ideas?
I have to now reposition the mirror each time I get in. My guess is that its a body control unit problem, but Im looking for a suggestion before I go back to the dealer and they attempt to fob me off with some story about another fault thats not directly related to the mirror replacement, which incidentally would be a load of hogwash.
Thanks in anticipation.

Yeah it's gonna be a hogwash story no matter whap happens I'm afraid to say. Of course we know it is not supposed to operate that way, so if all other things work fine (like they did before), than the only thing it could be is maybe a crimped wire etc. Seems like if the rest of the mirror was not working than it would be a much larger issue (wrong part etc.) It's gonna have to go back no matter what. I bet it is something simple.

Went along to dealer. Turns out that it was the wrong mirror. They all have different functions and this one was wrong for my model. New one ordered.
Went next day....WRONG PART AGAIN.

The options all include such things as:

Manual Fold or Auto Fold
Memory capable or not.
Heated or not.
Etc etc and in various combinations.

Lots of apologies etc, now trying again tomorrow. Some reduction in costs mentioned. Hopefully they will honour this.

The saga continues............

Glad to hear it is being taken care of. Looking up the parts for these Volvo's is only getting more complicated but it's not brain surgery! Wrong once, ok, mistakes happen, but twice? If I'm the parts guy doing it the second time, I triple check to make sure I got it right. The different options you mentioned can be verified by simply looking up the vin. Have a good one.

I had the same issue when I replaced my driver's mirror. When the motors are replaced the dealer is supposed to update the software to recognize the motor, which is the most  thing I've ever heard.

Basically it can be a wrong part, it could be when they replaced it they reset the configurations incorrectly and it can be trying to return to its position.

Best bet is to wait for them to get the right part, finally, and to bug the hell out of them. Honestly I would tell them for your time and inconvenience they should throw something in - I normally go for a free full alignment. I just can't justify the $150 for the majority of the shops around here just to align my tires

Well, that's that all taken care of. Big reduction in cost and another item I wanted sold to me at cost.
In the end, it all came down to the wrong mirror being ordered by them in the first place and subsequently.
It was slightly embarrassing bing saluted and bowed to in the dealership (I must have sounded really angry on the phone  )
Anyway, that's that put to bed.

This happened to me when I replaced a door mirror with one from a breakers. When I unlock the car the mirror moves right up to spot any following helicopters. So it seems I need to get a dealer to make the car software recognise the mirror. Is there any other way?

Not that I have been able to find anyway, except, that for the few days that I had the Hubble Telescope fitted, I lifted the memory control panel off from the right hand side of the seat and disconnected the mirror plug from the control box. OK, the mirror wouldnt move but it was less of a pain than repositioning it each time and as I was the only driver anyway during that time, it worked for me. However, in my case, getting the right one also revolved around the fact that I'd paid lots of wonga for it in the first place so they should have got it right.
