For a first gen V70, but yours should be almost identical.

Thanks so much! It's being such a pain right now. Sometimes it will start, sometimes it won't. Thanks again!

I do have another quick question. Is it possible that it's just the solenoid and not the starter itself? When I turn it over, everything comes on, but it just won't turn over....

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that  I'm guessing when it will decide to start, it will work just fine, but sometimes just won't even budge?

Have you tried clonking the starter with something when it sticks? I kept a dying one going for about a month using that method. Upon pulling it out, it was almost laughable how dented I had made the thing, if I hadn't been so frustrated getting it out of that car. If you can wedge a 2x4 or pipe or something down in there to the starter motor and are able to give it a good whack and get it going again, then it is actually the solenoid in it instead of the motor. But even if that's the case you'll have to replace the starter anyway. You can find rebuilt Bosch starters at many sites online.

Another thing to check would be your battery cables. I'm not sure if it's as much of a problem since they moved the batteries to the rear of the car, BUT on any car that has it under the hood, corrosion at the battery terminals gets to be a major player in random no-start situations.

+1
If you see a voltage drop on this cable you have issues.

Yes, you can buy just the solenoid for the price almost as a re-manufactured starter (about $200).
BTW, the starter on my 06 v70 looks a lot easier to swap than my 850.

I've been able to clonk it (the starter) a couple of times and get it going. She would turn over three maybe four times (different trips) and then I'd have to clonk on it again. She hasn't wanted to do a darned thing since Tuesday afternoon and that was even after a good several whacks.

If its up to me, I would just replace it. You can either get a Bosch re-man one from FCP $195 before 10% discount from here) or call DW Volvo get a volvo re-man one, which I think is the something.

please see this discussion and the link in it to drop testing of voltage:
