850 t5, 1997, turbo wheel replacement

Post by MNCO1 »

I did the unspeakable and slid my car into a curb this morning. I broke/fractured my front drivers rim. Maybe nothing else happened. Tire held air and seemed to ride ok the remaining 1 mile. Looking for a replacement. Its the 5 spoke fan blade design. 6.5 x 16....Any thoughts where to go? DW can't help. Wheel has been discontinued. Will try the local dealership to keep down time less. Believe they said about $300. Mike

Look on Volvospeed/Ebay/Craigslist...people put these wheels (usually in sets) up for sale all the time for cheaper than you can find a new one for. You must have hit that hard! I smashed into a curb at like 30-35 mph when I hit a piece of metal sheeting that flew off the back of a truck and my tire blew out, and the whole car was still fine except for a bent control arm.

Thanks, I'll look about. My front tires were turned to pull through a merge turn and the wheels hit face first. No rubber contact. That might have been better. Mike

JordanVW over on Volvospeed will likely have one. That wheel is named Columba. I've bought stuff from him before and he is reliable.

Lee,
Thanks. For the info. I did go to VS and posted a reply to Jordan's ad. Haven't heard anything yet. Didn't have his phone or I would call. Mike

I didn't hear anything from Jordan. Tried that email but it didn't go through. Called my local independent volvo shop and they had a stack of different rims laying around out back. Found what I needed and it was mounted and balanced, charge was $152.00. Good info. I hadn't looked at the classified section of volvospeed before. Will keep it in mind. Mike

I 'll keep them as a future resource. I did find one slightly beat up wheel at my independent repair shop to get running again and I decided to get a collection of 4 pretty used wheels from a source over at volvospeed. Further decided to have that set of four powder coated at a place that specializes in high end bike frame work. We had more of a winter this year then the last 15 yr I have been here. I will probably maintain winter and summer tire sets from now on. I have a nissan '90 std 4wd pu with snow tire on that is my main, get anywhere, no matter the conditions, vehicle. 180,000 and runs great. The CFC program provided a bunch of donor vehicles for me to do a complete facelift, inside and out, and I have a renewed attachment to my old truck.
