My dealer charged me $100 for a new battery. I just went to the parts window, bought the battery, went back to the car and swapped them, and then left the old battery at the dealer. Bring a 10mm wrench with you, and the radio code.

Volvo batteries are crummy. You can buy a group 47 or 48 battery. 48 is only like $20 more, slightly larger, but will fit in the tray no problem and offers more cranking amps if you live in a very cold area. I prefer Interstate batteries myself, but Die Hards are decent as well.

My original battery made it 9 years, the last two here in Fairbanks.
I paid $85 for a fresh Volvo replacement and it's going strong.
A perfect fit that took all of 5 minutes (maybe less) to swap.
I've been very pleased with it's performance.
