'99 V70 Fuel Door Won't Open
'99 V70 Fuel Door Won't Open
Have a '99 V70 and the fuel door will not open. Additionally, the central locking switch on both driver's and passenger doors will not function. I've read from earlier posts this is most likely a fuse issue....but which one. I checked everyone last night and no issues. Is it a module in the main fuse box? Scratching my head and the ol' fuel tank is getting lower. Appreciate any insights on this one....

This sounds very much like a faulty central locking relay but I don't have schematics for a '99 and the site in Poland that had all of the schematics went Tango Uniform.
As far as getting the fuel door open goes you need to remove the panel behind the lower tail lights on the passenger's side of the car. If you look along side the quarter panel you will see an emergency release ring, pull it back toward the rear of the car and it will release the lock on the fuel door. At least that is how it works on an 850. Check your owners manual under the "filler fuel cap" listing in the index as it may be slightly different on a '99.

Other thing I've noticed now is after reading an older post regarding "re-setting" the locks by using the key entry 3-times....found out my key entry on the driver's door doesn't work properly either. They replaced the central locking motor back in August and I've had nothing but problems since then.
I'll check again on the emergency release. I saw that in a few other posts. Thanks....

This happened on my '95 850, and I basically pried it open until I realized that when I locked the doors it also locked the gas tank cover. Fortunately for me a couple times of locking/unlocking the doors it opened. It actually concerns me that this can happen at any time. Was this a feature from Volvo to prevent gas/gas cap theft?

I had this problem at the gas station one time and ended up prying open the gas door, in my 98 v70. When I got home I found that the passenger side door lock switch was acting up and after rocking the switch back and forth a bunch of times it cleared the problem up.
Went to put gas in my 00, v70 volvo today and the gas door won't open. I read about your issues AllenS and wonder if you ever got your gas door open and how?
I am in need of gas and my car... it seems that everything is going wrong with car..

Have a '98 V70 and the fuel tank wouldn't open. Thanks to this forum I can now fill up my gas tank! I used the key lock on the passenger door to open and close the locks three times and the locks reset allowing the fuel tank to open. I looked at other posts on this forum and tried to reset the lock using the key entry on the outside of the driver door but that didn't work. Thanks so much!
