1993 850glt flashing REC / AC lights

Post by VolvoFreak »

First time this has happened - about an hour ago, when I started the car, the REC and A/C lights flashed on and off in unison for about 30 seconds and stopped. This now happens whenever I turn the car on. Any idea what this can be or why it's doing this? The car seems to run fine and the climate control works as it should.

Okay, went to do a bunch of running around this morning and not once did it happen again. :\ I hate intermittent things.

Hi - I just came to this board to find why this happens in our 95 850 GLT. I looked around and it seems maybe it's because the car has registered a "code" that something has failed, maybe something related to the air/heat/cool damper that gets stuck behind the glove box (ours is stuck shut the latch is forever broken).

Well, if you don't pay attention to those lights eventually something will go. I had those lights for most of this winter and now summer has hit, I have no air. 1992-1995 has a diagnostic board, part of the electronic climate control unit and it is located in the front right side of engine compartment by the washer reservoir. Two rectangular compartments with caps on. Remove the caps and they are marked A and B each having six numbered sockets. With ignition switched off, unclip the test lead from the holder on the side and insert it into socket 1 of module B. Be ready with pen and paper to write down the series of blinks on the red LED located on top face of module A. Turn ignition to ON, press the test button on top of module A once for about one second, release and wait for LED to flash. It will be in a series of 3 ie mine flashed 4-1-7. Then hit the button again for another code and do until first code ie. 4-1-7 flashes again. This is a start point to figuring what is wrong. I have the codes in my Haynes book and you can email me and I can tell you what your codes mean. ([email protected]) That's just the beginning of story for me. One week of 110 in Phoenix and I'm still trying to figure it out. Swore I was going to die first. Might still....

I'll check to see if any codes have been thrown, but it hasn't happened since and the air is as cold as ever. Who knows. I miss my old '84 Pontiac that didn't have all these gadgets.

My 850 does that, never thought much about it. Every thing else still works OK
