Unplugging front o2 sensor on 2000 v70.

Post by ratfink_v70_2000 »

Hi all, can anyone tell me how the front o2 sensor plug comes apart when renewing. I had a look and tried to get it apart but don't want to pull the wrong bit and damage the car side of the plug. It's either a very tight fit or I'm missing something. Thanks in advance.

It's a hard one to get to. It was easiest for me to reach in from the top of the car and work the plug off. Basically, the black thing needs to come away from the red one. Work at it a bit, and eventually it will come loose to the point where you can undo the connector.

There's some pictures here, I'm not sure if they'll help or not

Hi thanks for the pics but unfortunately the sensor plugs on the 2000 are quite different although they must a some time come apart. I'm just going to have to keep pulling carefully.

I believe that the 2000 model has an identical O2 sensor as the 2001; the following pictures are from a 2001!!. In order to get to it I had to reach with my left arm to the left of the upper engine mount; kinda a tight, but I was able to squeeze in there. This might be a little late, but here is how I got my front sensor connection apart...

...location is rear right of the engine block.

Here is what the model 2001 connection looks like.

I was successful prying the grey plastic lock open with my thumb.

Keep pulling until the lock is all the way open.

The two pieces ought to come apart rather easy now.

Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for the pics but the plug is different. Its a large plug which appears to be molded in one but must come apart as I've seen the sensor side in pics online when looking for the sensor but still can't work out how to split. As it happens since I removed the sensor to get a look at the correct numbers for ordering the cel hasn't come back on since refitting, there are no codes pending and non stored so I'm just driving it and see what happens.

If you look at it youll see one side has a red tab on it and one side has little red slots, take the side with the tab and find the spot where the red and black meet, youll see a slot for a flat head screwdriver place screwdriver in there and twist. This will pop the red tab out and you can pull it the rest of the way. Then unplug your o2 sensor. The other one has the grey lock on it (the one from above)
