2001 XC70- Climate control fan won't turn OFF

Post by h2ogirljen »

My car has been sitting for 2 months due to it needing a new tire, other Volvo needed to be driven for a while so we let it sit a while. With all the cold weather the battery was shot when we went to start it. Replaced the battery and now the fan (heater/AC) won't turn off, even when the key is removed from the ignition. The only way to turn it off is to remove the fuse. Any suggestions?

I tried a new fuse to see if that may fix it, but still no fix. Thanks in advance for any help.

A good place to start is to make sure the battery is fully charged. When the battery starts to lose juice it will start to cause some strange electrical gremlins. Try that first imo. Either get a new one, or charge up the old one, just make sure its got full power.

You have a bad IAT Sensor. The sensor is located directly under the thermostat on the left side of the engine just in front of the engine cover. You will need to remove the thermostat housing to access it, at which time I would also replace the thermostat.

OK, so far I have a new battery, the fuse has been checked and today I installed a new to me (from salvage yard) climate control unit. The fan still will not turn off. Is the blower fan resistor a possibility? I'll look into the IAT sensor as well.
