V70 2004 mirror memory problem

Thanks for the tip - I'll try some random disconnecting/connecting and locking/unlocking to see if I hit upon a solution. Our car has 2 drivers. The sky view only happens with my wife if she alters the seat position, whereas with my key it happens when I unlock the car. But not always! What an unnecessary feature! Whoever thought that one day door mirrors would have brains?

Looks like it is the wrong mirror.
I could give you the part no for mine (the one that worked in the end), but there are that many different combinations, there's no guarantee that it would be correct for you. Having said that, mine is a 2004 V70 D5 manual SE, without "puddle lights" on the mirror or indicator repeaters.
Where are you? if nearby we could compare. I'm near Lanark.

Hello harry and Dunc, If it's not too personal a question; would you please tell us what it costs to have a fancy mirror replaced? I'm assuming there was no body damage. Also; what does petrol cost in Scotland nowadays? Thanks. Kira

Hi Kira,

The mirror replacement including labour was just under £400 (UK Pounds).
I took the option of having the dealer do the labour as it was in the back of my mind that there may be electronic issues that may have confused me. Im no fool in this regard, but this is my first Volvo and I'm unfamiliar with them so just didnt want to take the chance.
If I had taken the mirror on a supply only basis, I would have been convinced it was my fault that it didnt work correctly and would be considering all sort of ECU/BCU issues rather than suspevcting that the wrong part had been supplied.
The mirror itself would obviously cost less on a supply only basis, but the labour was only approx 30 mins so it wont have made a great deal of difference. Im at work just now so dont have the invoice to hand to refer to.

Fuel costs here at present are ranging between £1.09 and £1.14 per litre for Diesel and Petrol is generally £0.01 to £0.02 cheaper. There are some places that fall outside this range, but for the most part, these are current.

sorry about bumpin an old thread, but i did what harryd did, just unplugged the mirror from the PASSENGER DOOR MODULE (you must remove door panel)

this worked great, but i lost temp sensor and puddle light and heated mirror..

what you can do is just clip or remove the pin on the GRAY (next to GREEN) wire, this will disable the up/down motor but you will still have all other functionality.

if you want to disable left/right movement too then clip the GREEN wire

reason this happens is a faulty potentiometer and there is a software bug that moves the mirror up when the potentiometer reports 0.00V
