Headlights! High beams work, low beams wont.

Post by ThaChampBeOn »

On my 1995, 960 the headlights will not turn on. I have replaced the bulbs several times. The high beams come on, which is unsafe to drive with at night time, but my low beams will not come on at all. There has been electrical issues with the vehicle but most have been resolved. At this point I will take and apply any advice anyone can offer. Thank you!

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

There is a relay behind the dash, to the left of the steering column, which switches between the high and low beams. You should be able to hear it click as it switches between the two. You should also be able to feel it if you put your finger on it.

Bill I appreciate the welcome and the advice. Were you refering to the switch I would use if I was sitting in the car driving? I can sit in the drivers seat and easily turn my high beams on and off, however turning the low beams on themselves is my issue.

No, it isn't the switch, it is a relay which is behind the dash to the left of the steering column. It controls both high and low beams.

patdor, welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

The 960 doesn't have the electronics that are found in the S40 so hopefully it won't be too expensive to fix.
