V70 T5 2001 HELP ME SAVE MY TRANSMISSION
MY 2001 V70 T5 IS WONDERFUL. IVE ENJOYED BEING A VOLVO OWNER FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS! BUT RECENTLY IT SEEMS TO HAVE A REALLY ROUGH START NOW. IT DOESN’T CRANK AND CHUG……IT JUST SOUNDS ROUGH(LIKE A REALLY LOUD GROWL). AND I DON’T REMEMBER IT EVER BEING LIKE THAT. THEN A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I PUT IT IN REVERSE, STOPPED TO HAND MY BABY HIS BLANKET AND THEN PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE. ABOUT 2 TO 3 SECONDS LATER IT ENGAGED INTO DRIVE WITH A JOLT. IT SLAMMED INTO GEAR WITH SUCH A STRONG JOLT THAT IT NEARLY SCARED ME TO DEATH. IVE BEEN DRIVING IT VERY GENTLY AND BEING AS EASY ON THE TRANSMISSION AS POSSIBLE. IT HASN’T DONE IT THAT BAD AGAIN, BUT ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK IT DOES IT AT RANDOM TIMES. THE MECHANIC SAID IF ITS SHIFTING HARD IT PROBABLY NEEDS A TRANNY FLUSH. HE WANTS TO HOOK IT UP TO A MACHINE AND THEN CHARGE ME $300.00 DOLLARS FOR IT. SEEMS KINDA PRICEY AND IVE HEARD PEOPLE SAY NOT TO LET THEM HOOK IT TO THE MACHINE THINGS. IM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. I PAID $9,000 IN CASH FOR IT AND NOW IF SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS THEN IM OUT OF LUCK. MY CAR JUST CLICKED OVER 100K AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO MAKE SURE MY TRANSMISSION WONT FAIL ON ME?????
Don't use the machine flush, it will definitely kill the trans for good.
here is a step-by-step guide on changing the transmission fluid in your car:

Read the thread you were involved in from yesterday;

There is no miracle cure for these transmissions, software, fluid, park-neutral disabled and prayers is about it. Find out what has been done to the car specifically (service wise) and get the car to a dealer and have the remainder of the transmission issues addressed. I wouldn't normally recommend "the dealer" but to my knowledge to disable the park neutral function and for the software it is your only option.
It looks like you've got quite a bit invested in your car and I know you are feeling frustrated. While there are always exceptions to the rule, you can look at your transmission as a spend a little now (and pray) or spend much more later.

thank you sooooo much. i know spending a thousand dollars or two now could save me from having to spend 10 thousand later! i was almost about to just sell the darn thing! but i will wait untill i go see the "dealer"!
thank you very much
thank you very much
You don't have to spend anywhere near 1k-2k now. I don't know what the charge would be for the software download and disabling the park/neutral function, but I would guess in the 200-400 range. As far as the fluid, do it yourself, there are many good threads here and elsewhere on how to do this. Just be sure to use the proper fluid...

SORRY...WHEN I SAID 1-2K I MEANT IT! I ONLY RECIEVED ONE KEY AND NO FOB... 200 FOR THE SPARE KEY, 160 FOR THE KEYLESS FOB, PLUS I HAVE TO DRIVE TO BILLINGS, 4 HOURS AWAY TO THE ONLY DEALERSHIP IN MONTANA! PLUS, I HAVE TO BUY A NEW CONTROL MODULE, 3-4 HUNDRED AND THATS NOT EVEN HALF! LOL! ITS GOING TO BE EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE FOR ME BECAUSE OF MY LOCATION. SINCE THERE ISNT ANY ONE FOR ABOUT 400 MILES FROM ME THAT WORKS ON VOLVOS.....THEY CAN CHARGE WHAT EVER THEY WANT! NO COMPETITION HERE IN MONTANA. I WAS LUCKY TO EVEN FIND THE MECHANIC I HAVE NOW...HES AN EX-VOLVO MECHANIC WHO OWNS HIS OWN PRIVATE SHOP. BUT HES THE SAME GUY WHO WANTS TO CHARGE ME 350 DOLLARS TO GET A TRANNY FLUSH! (WHICH I KNOW NOW NOT TO DO!)
