Emergency jack + jack stands? 2000 V70

I don't have a floor jack, but want to raise my 2000 V70 front end up on floor jacks. Can this be safely done using only the emergency jack? The following plan does not seem safe:

1. Use the emergency jack to raise the driver's side.
2. Place the jack stand under the proper front support.
3. Lower and remove the emergency jack, hopefully dropping the rear driver's wheel back onto the ground... but lifting the front passenger's side?
4. Use the emergency jack to raise the passenger's side.
5. Place the jack stand under the proper front support.
6. Lower and remove the emergency jack.

Will this process work to raise either the front or the rear? Or must I buy a floor jack? Is there a lesser alternative to a floor jack, since I'll rarely be using it and don't need all that power?

bottle jack? they don't take up that much space, in fact you could probably stow it in the spare wheel well. also a bit cheaper.

those jacks that come with the car are so sketchy

Harbor freight has floor jacks for really cheap. of course they are really cheap so you'll be lucky to get three uses before it craps out on you. but i use one.. and keep taking it back and exchanging it when it quits working. someday i'll get a decent one because it's frustrating using cheap throw away junk .

I bought a set of jack stands and jack @ wal-mart for $30 a few years ago. It's not one of those "racing jacks" so it takes awhile to get up but for the $$ it was worth it. I've used it many, many times and so far so good. Even though you think you won't use it you probably will, spend a little $$ and get one IMO. Those emergency jacks aren't called widow makers for nothin'.

anyway u can get car up on jack stands is ok. ramps are nice!
when my car is on these I also put tire under car frame and a brick behind a rear wheel

My lazy way is to put a piece of 2x4 under the sub frame and jack (under the 2x4) the front up then get the stands in.
