hopefully you work at an autoparts store and not home depot. those aren't standard washers. they are ''crush washers'' meaning they are so maleable that the low amount of torque required at the drain plug will crush or sandwich the soft metal to provide a seal much like a copper gasket. if you use a standard washer you will have a possible leak issue or worse attempt to tighten the bolt until the aluminum strips. oem ones are really cheap. so cheap that my tighter than a frogs ass mechanic handed me a handful for my diy changes.

The crush washers are aluminum. OD is the size of a US Quarter, the ID hole is the size of a US dime. I was able to buy one at O'Reilly Auto Parts with those coins and I think I got change back.

I buy plastic crush washers @ Advance Auto, are those bad? They don't seem to leak. Although I'm due for an oil change so I'll need to order a few filters from FCP, might as well throw in some washers, I forgot to do that last time.

Volvo drain plugs are considered 18mm aluminum crush washers.
The have an ID of 18mm an OD of 24mm and a thickness of roughly 1.15mm.
You will find two popular 18mm aluminum crush washers out there. One is for Hondas and the other for Volvo's BMW's and other European makes.
Our aluminum crush washers are available from both IPD and FCP for 25 cents each. I buy $20 worth and keep them in a plastic bag as they also fit most of our AWD bevel gears, AOD's and rear differentials.
I tried to get an outside source to sell them and the cost was 22 cents per at 1000 item purchase so I think the 25 cents is fair.
If anyone finds them cheaper please let me know.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I work at Lowes actually but through Lowes I am able to order anything I want from any vendor I want. I am certain I can find aluminum crush washers, especially now that I have the size from you guys.
Ill let everyone know if I find them and what they cost for comparative purposes.
