850 Engine "choke"

Post by rx7arai »

Hi all,

This problem seems interesting enough.. i couldnt find anything related to it so i need your guidance. It happen earlier today when i refueling my gas tank. as soon as i top off the tank, i started the engine and soon i realize my car will "choke" whenever i accelerate, it wont stall. but it felt like its not getting fuel.. and it jitters and "chokes". every few seconds it seems like it gets fuel and accelerate but if i stop at a red light, it idel just fine. only when i need to accelerate this happens. i recently changed the fuel pump. can it be related? or maybe due to a old fuel filter? or a bad sensor? need help, thanks guys.

The interval for the fuel filter is 100K.

Whenever I change something and then a problem develops in that system the first thing I suspect is what I worked on.

However, maybe you filled up with some bad gas.

hmm... bad gas?... wow.... i thought that was just a rumor people said... it wasnt no shell or 76 i went to.. but... i dunno... anyways, today i went to a auto shop.. they still have no clue what was wrong with the car.. they checked out my fuel filter, it wasnt that.. so they think its the fuel pump which i got it from Napa. I called them and they told me its very unlikely its the fuel pump becuz they usually last a few years. but who knows. so they said it could be the throttle position sensor... but my engine light never came on and it only display code 1-1-1 which it means no fault detected. :?

There was a rash of bad gas at "76" gas stations in the Seattle area about a month ago. It affected a few dozen stations, and the symptoms were jerking and stalling for hundreds or thousands of motorists, some with bills of severeal hundred $ from dealerships to clean fuel injectors on the affected cars.

It was a big deal, and it does happen :x .

Conoco said they would pay the repair bills, if what I heard on the TV news is correct.
