Further to my reply indicating that it was possibly the cable...
Do you hear the motor running which is mounted in the back of the seat? i.e. if the cable is the problem, the motor runs but the cable will not turn the worm gear assembly. If you don't hear the motor then the switch sounds like the problem. Lets us know how you make out.

will do, did not get the chance to do it yesterday. might have to wait until the weekend when I can have some daylight.
And, I do not hear the motor running when I press the lever, so I think it does make sense that it would be the switch.
