2006 XC90 to extend warranty or not
2006 XC90 to extend warranty or not
I have an 06 5 cyl XC90 with 49,000 miles. I am at the end of my factory warranty and must decide soon if I am going to purchase the expensive plan. I have researched the company, fidelity warranty services, and found a number of complaints on line and a clause in their contract for no real legal recourse. But the dealer says they have had no issues with them. My husband does work on antique cars but apparently the volvo is a different beast. Does anyone have any opinion on this matter?
The dealer stands to profit from the sale of the extended warranty (yes, they get a cut), so of course they say they haven't had any problems with the warranty company. I have never purchased an extended warranty, but anecdotal experience from friends and family who have purchased third party warranties is that, by the time they go to make a claim, either the company is out of business or the item they are making a claim on is not covered. I suspect from the research you've done that you already know the answer to your question. If you do decide to purchase the warranty, remember the price is negotiable (offer them a third of the quoted price).

Put the car back under Volvo dealer warranty (£500 in UK) you have to get the services done at main dealer but please be aware when the XC90 goes wrong, it goes wrong and can cost a bundle e.g geartronic transmission failed on my car the cost of a new box in UK around £5000.00 yes come off the floor!! a reconditioned box £2700 thereabouts, intercooler £400.00 + take my word for it gett the dealer warranty, to my mates over the pond have a nice day, Rob.
