Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

At that speed it usually means your wheels need to be balanced.

This is my opinion that it is true that an out of balance wheel usually shimmys at 50 to 65mph, however with your model Volvo I would carefully check the drive axels. Also I have seen out of round tires or a shifted belt create problems. When the tires were last changed were the lug nuts torqued to specs? It would also be a good idea to look at the engine mounts

check it out.....Dick K.

I have the same problem on a 2000 S80. I just had the wheels balanced today and the problem is also still there ... Let me know how it goes with your mechanic, and i'll do the same for you!!

MY 960's tires were beginning to cup and scallop. It occurs when the dampener/strut/shock wears out just enough. The wheel makes sub-millimeter skips at speed. It's like when a plane lands. There's that initial acceleration of tires to tarmac.

It caused my car to shake just enough to bug the hell out of me. It's one of those things that you would pick up if you are the owner or a mechanic.
Many Thanks,
Bright

i had the same problem last fall. it was my cv joints. it is easier just to replace the axle.

Axle replacement is the solution. Almost sure. There is a shop here in Dallas, they say they replace 5 a week.

I had the same problem which turned out to be the axle. Good luck.
