240 wagon 3rd Brakelight working only sporadically

My 3rd brakelight works only when the tailgate is in the "up" position on my 240 wagon. I'm pretty sure this is the Driver side tailgate wiring harness issue. Anyone want to offer advice or confirmation on this issue? thanks.

It is the most likely cause as this was a definite design fault on these cars.
