S40 brake caliper question...

Post by AlanS »

I see that the caliper piston is notched and needs to be 'turned' to retract for new pads. Does it 'screw' (meaning the piston continues to turn as it retracts) or is it just a 1/4 turn and then retracts. This will determine the tool I get.

Bill...in 2001, was it 'notched' or are there the two holes as in the later ones I have seen? I won't be able to afford the factory tool, so I am trying to see what will 'work'. I have seen advertised a cube that has nubs on it for various configurations. Do you have to keep turning the piston (not quite explained in the PDF), or does it just turn 1/4 turn and then you compress with a clamp. I want to get this done this weekend....
